Spiral Jetty

The images of the waders walking through the shallow waters seems to do a number of things for the film. First it gives the audience a sense of the texture and feel of the water were the monument is to be placed. Although the water is clear the lack of life such as algae or fish suggests beauty and uniqueness but also lifelessness. It establishes the environment where the monument is to be placed. It also is a deep contrast to the turbulence of the equipment moving the rocks and dirt and also allows the viewer to contrast the difference in the color and clarity of the water. It stresses the environment change, not necessarily the harm it causes but the way it has changed the landscape.
