Black/White
In this piece it is ambiguous at to who is the author. There is the person who witnessed the phenomenon of the dogs and decided to film it, who could be considered the author. Or it could be the dogs themselves that are not acting off of someone else’s idea but through their own instinct. But it is not as though the dogs are acting for the sake of a project. It can be compared to someone filming people in a documentary. They have a focus and idea for the piece but they do not actually decide what is going to happen in front of the camera. An author of the film could be the person who leaves the food out in anticipation of the dogs behaving the way they did. It was his direct actions that led to the ensuing events. Technically the author would likely be whoever decided to film the event that he had witnessed or told about, whoever is credited with making the film. In a documentary the filmmaker is an author in the sense that he decides what parts to keep in this film. In "Black/White" the filmmaker has very little control over the dogs but he has witnessed the event and decided to showcase it, so in that sense he is the author.
